Number Link

Number Link hides paths on a square grid. Every number appears twice, and you draw a line from one to its twin. Lines may never cross or share a square, and in the end every square must be covered. Drag with the mouse or your finger, or use the keyboard. Boards come in three sizes, from 5×5 with four pairs to 7×7 with seven pairs, and every puzzle has at least one full solution. Play Number Link free online in your browser — no download or sign-up needed.

Drag from a number to its twin without crossing other paths. All squares must be filled. Drawing over another path cuts it. Keyboard: arrows move, Space starts and stops a path.

How to Play Number Link

Objective

Connect every pair of equal numbers with a path so that all squares of the board are covered.

Starting a game

Choose a size. A new random puzzle appears with each pair of numbers shown in its own colour.

Rules

  • Start a path on a number and move through neighbouring squares (not diagonally).
  • Paths cannot cross, and a path can never go through another number.
  • Drawing a path over an older one cuts the older path where they meet.
  • Every square must be on a path when the puzzle is finished.

Controls

  • Mouse or touch: drag from a number to its twin
  • Keyboard: arrow keys move, Space or Enter starts and stops a path
  • Keyboard: R clears the paths, N starts a new puzzle

Winning and losing

The puzzle is solved when every pair is linked and every square is filled. You cannot lose; clear the paths and try again, or look at one solution.

Tips and Strategies

  • Start with numbers in corners and on edges: they have few ways to leave.
  • A square with only two free neighbours must connect those two neighbours.
  • Do not leave empty pockets: a path has to visit every square eventually.
  • Draw the short, obvious pairs first and let the long paths wrap around them.
  • If a path blocks you, just draw over it: it will be cut and you can redo it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there only one solution?

Puzzles can have several solutions. Any way of linking all pairs and filling every square is accepted.

Can I play with the keyboard?

Yes. Use the arrows to move the highlight, press Space to start a path, move to extend it and press Space again to stop.

What happens when I draw over another path?

The other path is cut at that square; you can restart it from its number.
