Sequence Memory

Sequence Memory tests how many steps you can hold in your head. Six coloured pads light up in a pattern and make a short note each; then it is your turn to repeat the exact order. Every successful round adds one more step to the pattern. The longer it gets, the faster the playback, so concentration and rhythm both help. Play Sequence Memory free online in your browser — no download or sign-up needed.

How to Play Sequence Memory

Objective

Repeat the growing sequence correctly for as many rounds as you can.

Starting a game

Press Start and watch the pads light up. When the pads become active, repeat the order.

Rules

  • The sequence is extended by one random pad after each correct round.
  • The first wrong pad ends the game.
  • Playback gets slightly quicker as the sequence gets longer, down to a minimum speed.

Controls

  • Mouse or touch: click or tap the pads
  • Keyboard: keys 1 to 6

Winning and losing

There is no final win; your score is the number of rounds you repeated correctly.

Tips and Strategies

  • Say the pattern in your head as positions, such as top-left, bottom-middle.
  • Group the steps into chunks of three or four.
  • Use the tones as an extra cue; each pad has its own pitch.
  • Turn on faster playback only after you are comfortable with the normal speed.
  • Take short breaks; accuracy drops when you are tired.
