Golf Solitaire

Golf Solitaire lays out thirty-five cards in seven columns of five, all face up. A single card starts the waste pile, and you play cards from the bottoms of the columns onto it when their rank is one higher or lower. If you get stuck, turn over a stock card. The fewer cards you leave on the table the better, so each game is a small scoring puzzle. Play Golf Solitaire free online in your browser — no download or sign-up needed.

How to Play Golf Solitaire

Objective

Move every card from the table to the waste pile, or leave as few cards as possible.

Starting a game

Seven columns of five cards are dealt face up. One card from the stock is turned onto the waste pile.

Rules

  • Only the bottom (exposed) card of each column can be played.
  • A card can be played when its rank is exactly one higher or one lower than the card on top of the waste pile.
  • There is no wrap-around: an Ace only goes with a Two, and a King only goes with a Queen.
  • When no card fits, click the stock to turn the next card onto the waste pile. There are sixteen stock cards after the opening one.

Controls

  • Mouse or touch: click a bottom card of a column to play it
  • Click the stock to turn a card

Winning and losing

You win by clearing all thirty-five table cards. The game ends when the stock is empty and no table card fits.

Tips and Strategies

  • Look ahead for runs: a card of rank 6 can start 6-7-8-9 if those cards are exposed.
  • Prefer playing cards that uncover many others.
  • Do not turn the stock early; every stock card is a resource you may need later.
  • Plan to keep a card that links two runs.
  • Count how many cards of a rank are left to see which runs are still possible.

Luck plays a part in every game, so no strategy can guarantee a win.
