About Brick Breaker

Brick Breaker puts you in charge of a paddle at the bottom of the screen. Launch the ball, keep it in play, and break all the bricks above you. Tougher bricks need several hits, and some bricks release falling power-ups: a wider paddle, extra balls or an extra life. There are six different brick layouts, which come back with tougher bricks when you finish them. Play Brick Breaker free online in your browser — no download or sign-up needed.

How to Play Brick Breaker

Objective

Clear every brick on the screen to finish the level and keep scoring.

Starting a game

The ball starts on your paddle. Move the paddle, then click, tap or press Space to launch.

Rules

  • The ball bounces off walls, bricks and the paddle. Where it hits the paddle changes its angle.
  • Bricks take one, two or three hits; their colour shows how strong they are.
  • Some destroyed bricks drop a capsule. Catch it with the paddle: a wider paddle lasts about twelve seconds, a multi-ball adds two more balls, and the heart gives an extra life (up to five).
  • You start with three lives and lose one when the last ball falls below the paddle.
  • After each level the ball gets a little faster.

Controls

  • Mouse or touch: move to steer the paddle
  • Keyboard: ← → or A D
  • Click, tap or Space: launch the ball
  • P or Esc: pause

Winning and losing

You advance when all bricks are gone. The game ends when you have no lives left.

Tips and Strategies

  • Aim for the edges of the paddle to steer the ball into corners.
  • Open a channel on one side so the ball gets behind the bricks.
  • Catch capsules when it is safe, but do not lose the ball for one.
  • Stay near the middle of the screen, since the ball is hardest to reach in the corners.
  • The multi-ball is worth more when many bricks are left.
